Who is this girl?  Why is she getting a gift?

It's important to consider what an appropriate gift would be.  If it's somebody you know well or who is in a relationship with you, that makes certain kinds of gifts more appropriate.  If it's somebody you know casually or somebody you want to get to know better, an expensive gift or one that has certain connotations might put you both in an awkward position.

A smaller, token gift or even just a small, tasteful bouquet of flowers might be more appropriate for a casual friend.
