So having spoken extensively to my now wife, we’ve narrowed it down to ‘Lapland, Finland’ or ‘Iceland’ or ‘Amsterdam, Netherlands’ thinking of going over new year so all of the above will be super cold. Unfortunately travelling to Canada/ US is definitely something we will do later in life but as this is only a 4/5 day trip we need to be closer to home to make the most of it. Why do you think it will be super cold in The Netherlands, winters are very mild at the moment. We are happy if we a few days of freezing temperatures during the winter nowadays. We do not compare with Lapland/Finland/Iceland. The Netherlands is kept warm during the winter by the North Sea and cold during the summer. It is not uncommon to have several weeks of rain in the winter months.  But yes, Amsterdam is easy to travel to from the UK and I think it is great destination for tourists.
