sydcat
Hi, I recently bought a fur waistcoat with chinchilla type markings. I know how common it is for this type of item to be made from dyed rex fur, so assume it is probably rex! First thing is that I've never seen this taupey kind of colour in chinchilla. And the black sections on mine have the taupey undercoat with just the very tips being black, so I'm guessing it's a dye job? I wondered if anyone with a chinchilla fur, or experience of, could confirm that the colours run from root to tip? Thank you in advance, as always, for any help. xx
furlvman1
That picture is of rex rabbit as it has consistent hair from the root to the tip.
FurLover97
The shades of the fur color are too regular and uniform, indicating that it has been painted. That's why I think it's rex rabbit
LeComte
There is no need to dye chinchilla rex rabbit, it's naturally grey-white. The pelts are bigger than chinchilla though. In softness they are less soft/silky than real chinchilla, but not coarse in any way. If you haven't touched chinchilla it's really hard to feel the difference. There are different kinds of rex rabbit and I'm not sure which color are the the nearest relatives, but maybe brown-white. I just looked at our chinchilla, the hairs are dark gray in the underfur and light gray on top; and dark gray -> white; and dark gray -> light gray -> black. https://livestockpedia.com/rabbits/rex-chinchilla/
